E - Jargon
Here we focus on definitions and descriptions of words and phrases specifically related to the e-commerce and Internet environment.

E-Commerce:
This concept describes the viewing, buying and selling of products and services on the Internet, also known as the World Wide Web (www). E-commerce can be compared to a shop’s window, and the advertising of products to customers. Here the customer has no knowledge of the backroom, the inventory, the accounts or the linkage to suppliers of goods, thus e-commerce does not include the supply chain or the internal organizations of a store (online).

E-Business:
This concept is much bigger than e-commerce and covers a fast area of a company’s online presence. Here the Internet is utilized as a backbone for the entire chain of business activities.

All commercial and business transactions between companies fall under the umbrella of e-business, including interactions and trades within and between companies. E-business will truly affect the way you do business.

In this edition, we would like to share a link with you to the first site in South Africa dedicated to the laws of the Internet, with links to related legislation, regulations and other useful information.  You can find this at the bottom of the newsletter within the 'relevant links' section.

A testimonial by one of the merchants on CyberTrade Mall:

My experience on using Cybertrademall. I recently started operating a webstore at the Telkom CyberTrade Mall (www.cybertrademall.co.za/home/dongledirect) called DongleDirect, and it has only been a pleasure since. By letting Telkom take care of the webstore admin, I am free to focus on the marketing and operational aspects of the business and therefore spend less time fine-tuning a website and more time talking to my customers. I started up the CC from scratch the old fashioned way: By myself. To get the CC ready for e-commerce was another challenge altogether.

First up were all the government registrations such as CK1, CK7. Then came registration for importing, VAT, tax and trademarking. Only after all the government registration has been done, can the company request a bank account and various accounts such as a DHL import account and VAT duties accounts. Also, accounts with local suppliers are only possible once you have all the paperwork in place. One of the last steps is getting a merchant account from a bank in order to allow customers to pay via credit card.

With all the operational infrastructure in place, you can start marketing. I use an affiliate programme to get sites to place banner ads. With CyberTrade Mall doing all the  hard work, it becomes easier to focus on customers and provide service and support.
